This course has been updated for 2026 to include new risks and new ways individuals and businesses can protect themselves from identity theft. This course is designed for individuals who would like to obtain a basic understanding of identity theft and how to protect yourself and your personal information from identity thieves. We will discuss various types of identity theft and how the criminals gain access to personal information and commit identity theft. We will review some of the legal and ethical implications involved. Examples of real-world cases will be provided to help develop an understanding of the risks involved. We will review steps that can be taken to help prevent identity theft.

This course discusses personal steps individuals can take to protect themselves from being a victim of identity theft and is appropriate for anyone who is worried about identity theft.
